RECAP: The Office Season 4 Episode 1 – Fun Run

Friday, September 28th, 2007

It is done. The anticipation and the wait is over. But the excitement remains. The hour-long episode last night was pretty solid.

Here’s the recap:

The show opens with Michael in his apartment, having the cereal breakfast Jan prepared for him. Michael updates the camera crew on how he is. And while he didn’t get the job in New York, he couldn’t have been happier with Jan around.

He goes to the office bursting with positive energy, when he accidentally hits Meredith with his car. Michael was looking at the camera crew when this happened:

At the office, we find Jim and Pam huddled with the IT Guy at Pam’s station. Apparently the celebrity porn she downloaded caused her computer to crash. We also learn that Karen left Jim and Scranton. They are so over. Then, Jim tells the camera crew he is very much a single man now. But Kevin doesn’t believe it. He is convinced Jim and Pam have hooked up.

Meanwhile, Michael tells the gang the bad news, first omitting the fact that it was he who ran over Meredith. But eventually everyone saw through him, as usual.

Dwight: Why did you do it? Is it downsizing?

Steve Carell on Leno (Sept 26)

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

I know we all can’t hardly wait. But we’ve got a couple more hours to go before the show kicks off. I’ve got something to fill the time, though. You ready?

As I’ve mentioned in an earlier post, Steve Carell was on Leno last night. I was thinking it was a shorter interview than the last time and it felt like it just breezed through, so I’m going to watch it again later. But here are the highlights, for your benefit:

Steve gets a huge welcome from the audience and once he sat down on the couch, Jay Leno asked him how he was doing and he casually said: “I am rich and successful,” without sounding cocky at all.

But that’s why we love Steve Carell. ;)

He mentions to Jay that he has rejoined a hockey team, where he plays the defense man and has “pulled a few groins”, apparently his and not anyone else’s, and then proceeds to talk about more groin-pulling, which is crazy!

But that’s why we love Steve Carell. ;)

The day before the premiere…

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

…And we found us a new TV promo! That’s to those kind people who glady upload their finds for our sake. If you haven’t caught this on TV, and you’re just like the rest of us who instantly get excited over a 30 second promo (how geeky!), watch the video!

Why is Jim without his shirt off? And why is Michael caught without his pants down?

Jim Shirt Off

Michael Pants Down

More you say? Well, Office Tally has video clips of the first episode “Fun Run”, six of ‘em in fact, taken from IESB.net. It also includes interviews from Steve Carell, Jenna, John, Rainn and BJ Novak. I’m just going to link it over to their site rather than discuss what the videos contain here, since a lot of it has spoilers. And for my sake (and yours, too — if you don’t want to be spoiled, that is) I’m trying to stay 50% spoiler-free.

There’s just one more day, people!

Season 4 Episode 3 & 4 Synopsis

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

The episode synopsis for The Office’s third and fourth episode for season 4 have now been released:

nullLaunch Party
Date Airing: October 11th

The Dunder Mifflin Infinity website is launching and Michael is excited about going to the big launch party in New York while Angela plans a satellite party for the Scranton branch. Meanwhile, Dwight competes against the website to see who can sell the most paper in one day.

The Dunder Mifflin Infinity website was discussed previously here.

Angela and her parties! *rolls eyes* (and yes, I would have to someone not invited at Angela’s parties since I’m probably not her kind of people, haha!).

And of course, Dwight’s competitive side is always something hilarious to see. I can’t wait!

Money
Date Airing: Oct. 18th 2007

EASY COME, EASY GO–As Jan (Melora Hardin) renovates the condo, Michael(Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) confronts his growing debt every way he can, which includes pressuring his employees for a loan. Pam(Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski) spend a night out on Dwight’s(Rainn Wilson) family farm, now a bed and breakfast.

Okay, wait a minute…Dwight runs a bed and breakfast? So, I guess that’s where the Hell Convention takes place?

And the idea of Jan taking charge of Michael’s personal space? It does seem like where this couple’s story is going, based on how Season 3 ended. I remember Michael going iffy when Dwight spent a couple of days in his condo. But then again, in fairness to Michael, I would also grow uncomfortable if my roommate happens to be someone like Dwight!

And ahhhh —- Jim and Pam’s night out! Whooooot!

Season 4 Episode Guides:

1) Fun Run - Sept 27
2) Dunder Mifflin Infinity 10/4
3) Launch Party 10/11
4) Money

The Office News Round Up Sept 24

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Digging the web for some The Office news, and here they are —-

First stop, Emmy interviews. Yep, I know. These are pretty late, as the Emmy awards ceremony has been done for about a week now. But I have compiled some more videos, photos and what-have-you’s of The Office cast from all over the web. Just in case there’s still someone who have missed these… (and I highly doubt that, The Office fans are the best at finding news and information first!). Anyhow, hope you enjoy these goodies, late as they are:

Here are TV.Com’s interview of Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson
- Steve corrected the interviewer who was probably messing around with him, when she said “regime” instead of “regimen”. This was a pet peeve he mentioned while guesting on Leno some few months back.
- Rainn was asked what his fans are like and he answers they are secret geeks between 11 and 27 but would much prefer his fans to be Playboy bunnies, if he had to choose. And Dwight should become a porn producer. And for that night, in support of Emmy’s going green, Rainn said ate a lettuce. He’s completely messing around with the interviewer.

Speaking of Steve Carell, if you are a TV Guide magazine reader, you might want to send in your questions to Steve Carell. This will be featured in an upcoming issue.

Second agenda, Emmy Fashion. The Office LJ Community collected Emmy Red Carpet photos of the cast members here. I’m no fashion maverick but I think you would agree — the guys looked all dashing and handsome, while the girls did not particularly blow whistles. My local paper’s fashion page even dished out on Jenna’s dress calling it outrageous.

Third, TV guestings. As it is just days left before the premiere of Season 4 (you can count the days with your fingers!), expect the cast to appear on some shows for promos. On Thursday, Sept 27th, some of the cast will supposedly appear on The Today Show. And a day before that, Steve Carell joins Leno on his show.

Fourth and finally, those who have signed up for Dunder-Mifflin Infinity should have received the welcome letter Ryan Howard, Dunder-Mifflin Director, sent.

By joining the Dunder Mifflin Infinity team, you have joined a movement. A movement that will sweep the nation. A movement that will shatter all of your preconceptions regarding how paper and office supplies are sold, distributed, catalogued, warehoused, and delivered. Dunder Mifflin Infinity was designed, by myself, as a means to topple the old guard. If my projections are correct, this project will make Dunder Mifflin more profitable than Exxon (in terms of comparative percentages). Aren’t you glad you’re here?

The idea behind Dunder Mifflin Infinity is explained in detail via Office Tally.

Season premiere this week, whoooohoooo!

Scheduled to take place in just over five weeks, the Scranton Convention, which is the very first gathering of fans of the TV Series The Office, seems to be in full force. Earlier, the activities planned for the weekend of October 26th to 28th was posted on the official convention website and just right after the Emmy Awards, the organizers have announced that tickets for this event will be on sale beginning September 25th.

Photos from The Office Season 4 Episode 2

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

My, my, my… Ryan looks very “George Clooney”, don’t you think?

There are a few more of these photos at Give Me My Remote.

NBC has officially released information for the second episode of The Office Season 4. This will also be an hour-long show just like the first episode.

Dunder Mifflin Infinity
Air Date:
October 4th
Episode Description: Much to the dismay of Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) and many of the employees, Ryan (B.J. Novak) returns to the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin to bring the company into the digital age. Angela (Angela Kinsey) is still upset about her cat.

Incidentally, if you’ve missed the episodes (and where will you be Thursday nights but watching The Office?), OfficeTally has reported that they will be available online immediately after the West coast airing.

The Office @ The Emmy Videos - Rainn Beats Kanye

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Regardless if Rainn Wilson lost the supporting actor trophy to Jeremy Piven, this bit with hip-hop artist Kanye West was one of the funniest moments to an otherwise underwhelming first hour at The Emmy’s.

The Office @ The Emmy Videos - Greg Daniels Win

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

As promised, here’s Greg Daniels’ acceptance speech for winning Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series at The Emmy’s.

Greg Daniels compares his work and their efforts to the story of The Little Red Hen, which, incidentally, is one of my personal favorite stories to tell kids.

And props to Greg Daniels for thinking of this in his speech!

Emmy Winner, Greg Daniels

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

Breaking news…a few seconds ago Greg Daniels just accepted his Emmy Award for Writing!

Oh, yeah. Rainn Wilson lost to Jeremy Piven. Jenna Fischer lost to Jaime Pressly. But I’m sure both are thrilled to be nominated, nonetheless…they were really up against equally good and talented actors.

I’ll be posting more on this later….the Emmy’s not done yet. We still have Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actor to look forward to.

And Rainn is on right now, in this Don’t Forget The Lyrics bit.

Be back for more…

Update: The Emmy Awards ceremony is done. Sadly The Office ends the night with only one win. :(  I think I just jinxed it with the first title that came to mind when I posted this entry earlier. Heh.  I’ll try and post a few video highlights soon, because even if the show and the actors didn’t win, Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski had some fun and fantastic moments during the awards night, proving once again what great entertainers they all are.

The Office Season 3 DVD is #1!

Friday, September 14th, 2007

You can’t argue with this fact anymore. The Office is the #1 Comedy series today!

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Season 3 of the NBC comedy “The Office” debuted at No. 1 on the national DVD sales chart Wednesday, becoming the first TV-DVD release to accomplish this feat since the season 2 set of “Lost” a year ago.

“The Office” bumped the previous week’s top seller, “Blades of Glory,” to No. 2 on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart. It also beat several new theatrical features, including “George Rule” (No. 3) and “Delta Farce” (No. 7).

What is the Dunder Mifflin Infinity?

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

For awhile now, we’ve learned that Ryan The Temp (who is now, of course, Ryan The Boss), has big plans for Dunder-Mifflin and hopes to bring it to the “digital age”. Which probably explains what this is all about.

The webby’s looking pretty good, huh?

I have no doubt this has something to do with Ryan’s story line. In fact, we’ll probably learn more of this as The Office Season 4’s episode 2 unfolds. The episode description from NBC Universal Media Village:

THE OFFICE
DUNDLER-MIFFLIN INFINITY

THERE’S A NEW BOSS IN TOWN - Much to the dismay of Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) and many of the employees, Ryan (B.J. Novak) returns to the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin to bring the company into the digital age. Angela (Angela Kinsey) is still upset about her cat. Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Melora Hardin, Ed Helms, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Oscar Nunez, Phyllis Smith, Paul Lieberstein, Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson and Creed Bratton also star.

The second episode for The Office airs on October 4th, and once again this is another hour-long treat.

Update: The Office Tally reports on Sept 13 that the website is in fact a game site where fans can actually play among each other.

About Watching The Office

Watching The Office follows the lives of office workers in the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, as they face day to day business operations under the guidance or actually, misguidance, of their often inappropriate boss, Michael Scott. One of NBC's best comedy shows, The Office is the incarnation of a revolutionary BBC TV comedy bearing the same title. Hailed for its sharp humor and unique concept, The Office has received multiple recognitions from several award giving bodies since its USA premiere in 2005. Watching The Office will cover everything we get our hands on regarding the show, And from time to time, we will also bring the spotlight on its British version. So, pick a desk and settle down. Let's get working…
