Jenna is now free!

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

She’s free everyone! She has been released from captivity. Although, sadly The Rocker didn’t meet the intended box office target. Officially on that site, Jenna didn’t make it, too.  (I haven’t seen The Rocker yet but I am definitely catching it on the big screen…just have to get parenting duties and work out of the way, Rainn.)

As for Jenna, she is really alive and well and already talking to the E! She shares a few things about what’s going on with Pam at The Office…who is actually in an Art School for much of the fourth season.

Holly’s Flax Seeds

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Check out the latest edition of Dunder Mifflin’s newsletter, Holly has an entry on it!

dmnews

Our favorite gal from HR has her Flax “Seeds” which provides snippets or information… or facts you may find interesting but aren’t really that useful.

The latest issue also has:

  • Michael’s review of the movie Wanted
  • Jim selling his Xbox360 so he could get a Wii
  • Dwight lobbying against pomogranate
  • Kevin campaigning for diet cream soda
  • Meredith miffed about someone cleaning her cup

Steve Carell - Ten Things

Monday, August 25th, 2008

I thoroughly enjoyed this article from UK’s Digital Spy on ten things Steve Carell facts we never knew. I really didn’t. Well, on some of it at least. I knew that he used to be a postman and he aspired to be a lawyer.  Everything else … it was great to read about it!

Here are five:

  • steve carell Steve is the youngest of four brothers born in Acton, Massachusetts to a psychiatric nurse mum and electrical engineer dad.
  • Steve’s paternal grandfather was Italian and his dad was born with the surname Caroselli, which he changed to Carell before the comedian was born. Steve says of the more exotic moniker: “Frankly I almost wish I’d grown up with it because it would have been misspelled far less frequently [than Carell]. Everyone puts in two Rs and two Ls.”
  • Steve felt the pressure when he tried out for Ricky Gervais’s role in the US version of The Office. He says: “When I was invited to audition for Michael Scott, people treated me as if I had a disease. They said, ‘You have to be crazy even auditioning for this, Steve. It’s going to be terrible.” It’s fair to say he had the last laugh after the show scooped a fistful of awards.
  • Steve had his chest waxed for real in 2005’s The 40-Year-Old Virgin because he wanted his reactions to look as real as possible. Ouch!
  • Steve insists that he enjoyed working with children and animals in 2007’s Evan Almighty, despite flouting one of the cardinal rules of acting. He recalls: “They do what animals do, they don’t smell particularly good, and they sometimes want to attack you when you raise your voice. The baboons took umbrage, shall I say, when I improvised with them.” Eek!

But there’s five more over Digital Spy.

Mose gets a well-deserved pay raise!

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Hooray for cousin Mose who has been giving a hefty seven figure salary by his studio. He is going to be be working on the new series with Amy Poehler.

  • mose “The Office” writer/co-executive producer Michael Schur has extended his relationship with Universal Media Studios, inking a seven-figure, two-year overall deal at the studio.

Schur has been a writer on the NBC comedy since it debuted in 2004 and has appeared in several episodes as Dwight’s (Rainn Wilson) cousin Mose. Along with “Office” exec producer Greg Daniels, Schur is co-creating and executive producing NBC’s upcoming Amy Poehler comedy series.

NUP_110680_0328 “Mike has been one of the stars on ‘The Office’ for a long time and was someone we all knew we weren’t going to let out of our clutches,” UMS president Katherine Pope said. “Especially in this environment, to make a big deal, everybody has to feel passionately about the person, and we all truly believe in Mike.” That includes NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman and exec vp Teri Weinberg, she added.
Pope credited Schur, a former “Saturday Night Live” writer who also produced the “Weekend Update” segment, with playing a key role in recruiting former “SNL” colleague Poehler to star in the new series.

While Schur will focus on that series, “that isn’t to say that his relationship with ‘The Office’ is over,” she said. He may develop other original series for the studio.

Schur’s wife, Jennifer (J.J.) Philbin, a former writer-producer on “The O.C.,” inked an overall deal at the studio last year.
This marks the first overall deal for Schur, who is repped by UTA, 3 Arts and attorney Ken Richman.

The Rocker watch: A whole lot of Rainn Wilson

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

rainn wilson the rocker Because his movie, The Rocker, is opening today, August 20th; and because we want to acknowledge his work; and because we want a lot of people to watch this movie (and have Jenna free, now!) — we’re dedicating this day to Rainn Wilson.

Rainn Wilson plays Word Association. When he thinks of Michael Scott, he thinks “God”. When he thinks of Jim Halpert, guess what he thinks? And there’s a succeeding follow up to that, with this lengthy interview displaying his hilarious brand of humor.

  • If you started a band tomorrow, what would you title the group and your debut album?
I would call it The Rainn Wilson Band and my first album would be called, “The Rainn Wilson Experience.” And the first single would be called, “It’s All About  Me.”
  • But it’s not a solo project.
Oh, no, no. It would be a band. It’s all about the band.

Another interview for his film. He revealed he actually knows a bit about reading music and has played in a band in high school.

  • “I had a little bit of experience when I went to New Trier Township High School (in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka, Ill.). There was a short-lived band I was in called Collective Moss. We only played two gigs. We were the world’s worst cover band. We were just awful. But I could read music and that’s how I learned the tracks for ‘The Rocker’. I would tape the ‘score’ on the drum set and learn to play that way. This made it easier for me to pick up the rhythm.”

Wanna see how good he is at playing drums thought? Watch this video. And read this interview on USA Today.

  • “There is always this fear in Hollywood that, ‘Oh, characters need to be likable and relatable.’ And I don’t know if that’s necessarily the case. I think that characters need to be human and they need to be recognizable, but they don’t have to necessarily be likable,” he says. “That opens a whole world of comic possibilities. I enjoy playing essentially unlikable characters and really committing to it and digging in.”

Rainn Wilson isn’t ashamed of being a late bloomer, just like his character on The Rocker according to this article.

  • During those formative years, he did everything from Shakespeare in the Park to experimental off-Broadway plays. But not once did the 42-year-old ever play the drums, so hours of training were required to master the rock bashing for his headbanger part in the movie. “When I first got the script I laughed out loud at the physical comedy.” While Wilson admits that growing up in a small town outside of Seattle he “was more into Violent Femmes and Black Flag than the Stones and Led Zeppelin,” he enjoyed learning the rock style of drumming. “There was a certain kind of free-spirited, freewheeling idiocy that I could relate to,” he says.

This isn’t related to the movie, but you probably wanna see this video of him, hosting a show called Book Chat.

Jenna as Sydney Bristow

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

51ww56H1ecL._SL500_AA240_ You probably know this already but Jenna Fischer once said in an interview that she tried out for the part of Sydney Bristow on Alias. Only, she was turned down because she was told she wasn’t “sexy enough”.

This and more casting misses are found in the book, “Mickey Rooney as Archie Bunker and Other TV Casting Almosts” written by Eila Mall.

Can you imagine Jenna as Sydney Bristow though? I honestly can’t. I get this vision of her not being able to lie through her teeth, which is what Sydney Bristow’s work involves. Jenna as Sydney would probably crack up the minute she tells a farce. Maybe because I so associate her natural self to Pam already.

The Office Spoilers for Season 5

Monday, August 18th, 2008

the office logo The date of the new season premiere is drawing near my friends. Finally, new information about what is up ahead is coming in!

First off, an Office episode may be coming to Scranton to film one episode, according to this interview with Rainn Wilson. How exciting for its residence! And I’ll be looking forward to an episode like that, with the Dunder Mifflin float!

  • TL: Have the producers ever discussed filming “The Office” in town?
  • RW: Yes, we talk about coming to Scranton all the time.
  • TL: How serious are those discussions?
  • RW: Well, the problem is that it’s difficult to do. We’re still trying to figure it out. It would require flying about 80 crew members to Scranton and then hiring a lot more there. And then we’d have to secure locations. I imagine that once we all got to Scranton, all life in town would stop, and it would be like the zombies running around in “28 Days Later,” with people trying to find “Office” locations. Security would be a nightmare. That being said, we really want to do it.
  • TL: What would the show be like if you guys filmed it in Scranton?
  • RW: I’m not sure. But we talked about it really seriously last year. We’d love to do a St. Patrick’s Day episode. We thought it would be so funny to have Dunder Mifflin make a float.

Next bit of news — the title to the first episode is Weight Loss, involving a competition about it. Did the gang gain weight over the summer? Apparently, it’s a company initiative, not just done by one branch (like they did with the marathon last year). Dunder Mifflin even released a memo.

  • Each branch will be competing to lose the most weight over the course of the next seven weeks. Office weigh-ins will be conducted every week and reported to corporate by your Human Resource Representative. At the end of the seven weeks, the branch that loses the most weight WILL WIN THREE EXTRA VACATION DAYS!

The first episode will also address the love triangles involving Dwangela + Andy and Jan, Michael and Holly.

And there’s a Dunder Mifflin employee returning in the premiere. Roy has been ruled out. So, who is your guess? Ryan or Karen or Toby?

Mindy Kaling reaches out to Rainn

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Have you been following FreeJennaNow? Rainn has more videos up, including one with Jenna who willingly holed herself up inside a very humid car; and this, with Mindy Kaling trying to talk sense into Rainn. Except he convinced her to see it the other way around.

Speaking of Mindy, the talented Office writer/actor, has retain a piece on living alone for Marie Claire. Here are some excerpts:

  • In the middle of the night, I heard a gunshot and immediately peed my pants. Well, to be accurate, I peed my pajamas. For those of you who haven’t had the experience of peeing yourself, it’s not just for children and the elderly. It can happen to anyone who is terrified and thinks that they will be murdered shortly. Well, it wasn’t a gunshot. It was an indentation in my plastic water bottle un-indenting itself, loudly. It made a loud, plastic-y crack,, which I mistook for a gunshot. When I realized this, I felt relief … then a deep foolishness.Living alone is hard. As frightening as it can be, I treasure my time alone. Why? I can be as self-interested as I please. I’m 29, and as I feel myself drifting toward marriage and kids, I’ll look back on this time as a delicious, tiny window where I got to do whatever I wanted. Including, as it turns out, peeing my pajamas in terror.

Also related to Mindy and her character, Kelly, in an odd way… is this real life situation regarding Craig Robinson’s arrest. Does he not play her current boyfriend on the show? And also on the show, Ryan, her character’s ex-boyfriend, had been taken away by the police! What is with Kelly Kapor and the men of her life? Why do they keep getting arrested?

Dwight Schrute says decathlons are for wimps and suggests a few more events for it, including cabinet making and murder ball!!!

Michael Scott talks (inappropriately) about Women’s Volleyball…
