Where is John Krasinki this summer? In Stramford.

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

JohnKrasinski10.jpgBut of course, the branch office there has closed down. John Krasinski returns to that place, though, to shoot his movie with Maya Rudolph, Farlanders.

STAMFORD - Refusing to be typecast, Stamford is expanding its range on the silver screen, offering itself to filmmakers as the city of a thousand faces.

Film crews and makeup trailers have been no stranger to Stamford streets since July 2006, when Connecticut began offering a 30 percent tax credit to filmmakers. Still, residents may be surprised to see Bedford Street masquerading as downtown Montreal or a Vine Road home impersonating a Colorado residence in a forthcoming Sam Mendes film.

Mendes, the British director known for his Oscar-winning “American Beauty,” moves into the realm of romantic comedy with a movie written by Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida, currently using the working title “Farlanders.” The movie follows an expectant couple - John Krasinski of NBC’s “The Office” and Maya Rudolph of “Saturday Night Live” - around North America as they search for the perfect place to settle down and raise a family. Among the places they visit are Montreal, Colorado and Arizona - faraway places that will seem close to home to Stamford residents because these scenes were filmed in their backyard.

“It’s pretty amazing because none of the scenes are of Connecticut,” said Chris Weiser, a scenic foreman for the film who worked on Bedford Street during filming May 23. “Our job has basically been to make it look like something else.”

Weiser and the rest of the “Farlanders” film crew transformed Remo’s Brick Oven Pizza on Bedford Street into a 24-hour French-Canadian diner. In the film, Krasinski and Rudolph stop at Remo’s for pancakes after a night on the town.

The “Farlanders” location scout was attracted to Remo’s because its black-and-white tiled floor and lighting fixtures gave the restaurant a French feel, Weiser said.

“I’m kind of proud,” said Eugenio Marraffa, the restaurant’s co-owner. “They chose this place because of the ambiance.”

To prepare for filming, the “Farlanders” crew added French lettering to Remo’s interior and exterior. They added two 24-hour breakfast signs, one in French and one in English, outside the restaurant and pasted French lettering on the main windows. They left the diner’s name as Remo’s, however, which the owners said will give the restaurant good exposure.

“Remo’s the name is going to be (in the movie),” said Anthony Nargi, Marraffa’s partner. “And people, if they do go to see ‘Farlanders,’ will recognize Remo’s. It’s there.”

The Office Spoiler: Jim and Pam Engagement?

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

jimpam.jpgSome spoiler scoops from Ausiello of TV Guide

Apparently, a “big stuff” happens in the following weeks and his source confirms this will take place April 17th

“But the April 17 episode merely serves as the staging ground. Apparently, the plot is set in motion next week, picks up steam on April 24, and then climaxes on May 1.”

As to the spin-off : According to an insider, the Michael-Dwight dynamic is “too integral to the show.” The likelier scenario, according to a Peacock insider, has Ed Helms’ Andy headlining Office 2.0. “That idea was batted around prior to the strike,” whispers my source, “and NBC seemed interested.”

Andy Bernard? Hmmm.

John Krasinski Interview - The AV Club

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

JohnKrasinski

The full interview is at The AV Club

How did you get the part in Leatherheads?

John Krasinski: Basically, I went through an internship program with George Clooney as his assistant and paid him bags full of money, because he’s hurting for cash, as you know. Things haven’t been going that great for him since he left “er” [ER]. [Laughs.] Well, the thing is, I met him the day after this Vanity Fair article on him, so he was literally on my coffee table when I went in and met him. And I was totally nervous because of all the lore about him. Basically, I had a meeting with him and thought I had blown it royally. Then I was asked to put myself on tape in New York, which was deflating, because most say that if you’re not meeting the director, you’re not going to get the part. And yet he just called one day and cast me off that tape.

What are some of the differences you discovered between the way football is played today and the way it was played in the ’20’s? Was that sort of research important to you?

JK: Oh, yeah. Absolutely. It was huge. My character was based on a guy named Red Grange, who came out of Illinois. He was the first college player to join the pros. The story that the movie’s based on is true. I’m not the direct character or anything, but [the professional league] brought the guy out from college. I remember thinking, in today’s world, when someone gets drafted and there’s this rookie that everyone wants to see, everyone goes out to see this guy play. Basically, once he got in the pros, [Grange] toured the country more like a rock band. He did five games in a week. And no matter what his injury status was, he’d still have to go out the next night. He was more like a circus act than the actual player of a game.

When you’re acting alongside big personalities like George Clooney or Steve Carell or Robin Williams, what do you feel your role is? Are you comfortable yielding the floor to them?

JK: The truth is, especially with those three guys, there was no yielding the floor. The most amazing thing about all three of them is that they respected me on a level that I didn’t expect. I think they totally respected what I could do, and let me have the moments that I needed to fill in the gaps within the movies or the TV show. And I think it’s a really gutsy thing to do. It’s really classy of all three of them. The thing I’d say most about it is, I’ve been very lucky to have my career doled out in very nicely placed increments. By that, I mean I did The Office and worked with Steve and everybody else on the show, and that was sort of a mind-blowing experience, and something I had to get used to. And if I didn’t have that, I never would have been able to work with Robin Williams and stay sane. I just would have been totally freaked out. And working with Robin and being in my first big movie really prepared me to work with George. If I had missed one of the other steps, it probably would have been too overwhelming for me to deal with.

John Krasinski is still everywhere!

Monday, April 7th, 2008

John Krasinski on SauceIf I were John Krasinski, I’d probably be too beat right now…I’ve been everywhere for the last two weeks!

John Krasinski has been doing the media rounds a lot lately. But I guess when you’re career is in full gear, and with a movie at the box office, you can’t stop just yet.

Where’s John been again?

“My love for British things, and London especially, is so overwhelming. But one day I went out to lunch there with Ricky Gervais and I felt sure that people were going to just stone me. Over here the new show was well underway, but over there it had just hit and obviously no one was watching it enough to care about me. Ricky is a whole new echelon of celebrity. Everybody knows him! Everyone wants to buy him a pint!”

  • He was on Entertainment Weekly. This community has the scans from the magazine but the complete article may also be read here.

John Krasinksi imagines his alternate-universe life as a teacher

I go by Mr. K. I’m teaching English at a prep school in rural Connecticut. In my class, homework is not homework, it’s preparation for the next day. I love teaching books that have been pigeonholed as ”epics,” and my big thing is discovering for yourself why you like them. I’d have a lot of stuff written in some cryptic way on the whiteboard where you can’t understand it until we start talking about the book. I’d throw desk supplies off bridges…

Well, with all these press…his followers for sure will have no reason to complain. And besides, the guy deserves it.

John Krasinski is still this week’s hot news, what with the success of Leatherheads at the movie theaters. He was guest on Conan last night, and we’ll hopefully have videos of that. But for now, here’s the Q & A between him and the New York Times, which mostly touched on his latest movie and co-stars and one tiny bit about Jim & Pam…

Unscripted with George Clooney and John Krasinksi

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

john.jpg

Carrey and Carell did this a few weeks ago on Unscripted, while promoting Horton Hears a Who, and this time it’s John Krasinski’s turn with his Leatherhead co-star George Clooney. As always, Unscripted is where two stars interview each other, with readers submitting the questions they would have to ask.

In this video, George would ask John a question about himself (What’s it like working with me?) and John would blandly reply with a canned answer. It’s hilarious!

George: That was really unscripted!

There are several other videos at Moviefone including one where 1) John asked why he was included in this film (Clooney said they went with 15 other guys before him) 2) John hints of what the future holds for Pam and Jim in The Office (babies!!!).

Incidentally, the show had a grand premiere last night. Head to this site for the red carpet videos.

John Krasinski everywhere!

Monday, March 31st, 2008

12411905451press129200744328PM.jpgWell, mostly everywhere. He’s so visible these days since Leatherheads is about to be released in theaters this week…April 4th, to be exact.

He’s got interviews and features on:

  • The New York Times, where he talks about working with George Clooney, a bit of PB & J and venturing into directing.
  • USA Today, in which Steve Carell, his The Office boss, says he’s so much more like Jim Halpert in that “He’s not a brooding sort of self-aware guy. He just enjoys what he’s doing”
  • Parade Magazine, where he talks about starting as an intern and now lucking out on where his career is headed.
  • PopSugar as he is scene going out for lunch with Rashida Jones recently
  • Huffington Post which has a short piece about him

The Office Round Up March 26th

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I haven’t done this in a long time. Here it goes though:

* Melora Hardin will be on VH1’s comedy Free Radio on Friday, March 28th

* Mindy Kaling and Craig Robinson visit the University of Notre Dame this Saturday, March 29th

* B.J. Novak is at Cornell University’s Bailey Hall also on Saturday, March 29th

45080092674_10.jpg* Catch John Krasinski on Jay Leno, where he is tonight’s guest. He will also be a week back early on NBC Thursdays, as the rest of his Office cast mates since John will be hosting the recap show. Says Kristin of E! “…you’ll get your John Krasinski fix April 3 when he hosts NBC’s Thursday night comedy lineup. They’re going to replay the last four episodes of The Office, and J.K. will be previewing scenes from his upcoming movie, Leatherheads, with Mr. George Clooney. Very fancy, our little Halpert has gotten, no?!” Incidentally, Leatherheads will have a premiere March 31st in Hollywood Blvd. But the movie opens nationwide (or worldwide?) April 4th. Oh, and here he is…John Krasinski Naked.

* Angela is featured at Graco, the baby blog (a portion of the interview below…)
What is the most exciting thing for you about becoming a new mom?
I have always wanted to be a Mom and honestly the most exciting thing to me about all of this is meeting my little girl. I cannot wait for that moment when I first see her and hear her voice. I’m sure I’ll be crying my eyes out. Tears of joy.

As a mom, what is the one thing you’re most curious to find out about? What she looks like! We have brunettes, blondes and redheads and tall, short and everything in between in our families and I can’t wait to see which characteristics she gets.

* And finally, Rashida Jones was on Craig Ferguson the other night.

John Krasinski to star in a comedy with Maya Rudolph

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

6294_krasin54013_150x200_1_.jpgI see this as an unlikely pairing because to me, Maya Rudolph is a bigger comedian than John. Whereas in most comedy films, isn’t the guy always much more goofier? And the girl is the one that brings the “romance” to a romantic comedy? Maybe that’s just me. Anyhoot, I’m excited for this film, brilliant casting and all.

From Variety

John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph will star in Sam Mendes’ untitled relationship comedy for Focus Features. Cheryl Hines has signed on to co-star. Film follows an expectant couple (Krasinski, Rudolph) as they travel the country in search of a place to put down roots and raise a family. Author Dave Eggers penned the screenplay with his wife, editor-novelist Vendela Vida. Shooting is scheduled to start in April in Connecticut.

Incidentally, this blog has picked John as their Nerd Man of The Month, citing that while he’s quite the looker, John is also an “Ivy League graduate and holds a degree in playwriting…with honors” — typically a nerd alarm.

And in the other end of the spectrum,  here he is looking rather GQish, looking every inch like a ladies’ man,  in this photo shoot for Best Life Magazine.

Date Picks: Jim, Pam & Karen

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

During Valentine’s day, readers of EW were asked which TV character they would pick as best dates in real life. There were rules to picking the right person and that poll received more than two hundred responses (I stopped counting after reaching 120 replies and it was still half the page!). And it turns out, JIM HALPERT is most everyone’s top pick… I mean, for most females. And I can understand why. Jim’s the type of guy you can be very comfortable with on dates.  For the male set, both PAM and/or KAREN  made it to the list, too.

jim.jpg

pamkaren.jpg

Here’s a question…seeing as these three seem to be on the same wavelength, regardless of what the dynamics their relationship is, would it be so bad if we see an episode where Karen, Jim and Pam get together and make nice? Doing away with the awkwardness and leaving the boyfriend-girlfriend part out of the equation, I do think these three characters would hit it off and make a great group of friends.

What do you think?
