Steve Carell Three More Years at The Office says Ricky Gervais

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Ricky Gervais had some really nice words for Steve Carell, who has just renewed his contract and signed on for three more years. Gervais writes on his blog:

Had some great news today about the American version of The Office.

Steve Carell Ricky GervaisSteve Carell (now one of the most bankable film stars in the world) has just signed up for another three years with us. He is the hardest working man in Hollywood and the harder he works the better it is for me. I mean… well done Steve you are wonderful.

I had to wear a beard for one day on This Side of The Truth and I hated every minute of it. Steve had to do months of that in Evan Almighty and I heard he didn’t complain once. He is a very nice man and deserves all his success. I am just as dedicated to my art without compromise but only between the hours of 9 and 3pm.

We are also working on a spinoff series of The American Office but I can’t tell you anything about that yet.

Get Smart Wins at the Box Office

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Get Smart Poster Despite poor reviews, Steve Carell’s latest starrer, Get Smart, was able to meet the targeted opening range and made $39.2 million this weekend and won over the other comedy, Love Guru.

As Reuters reports…

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Maxwell Smart clobbered Mike Myers with his shoe phone at the weekend box office in North America.

"Get Smart," a remake of the classic television spy spoof, sold an estimated $39.2 million worth of tickets during its first three days, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said on Sunday.

Steve Carell, of TV’s "The Office," stars as Maxwell Smart, the ineptly clever secret agent originated by Don Adams. Anne Hathaway fills in for Barbara Feldon as his smart sidekick, Agent 99.

Warner Bros. had been hoping for an opening in the $30 million to $35 million range, said Dan Fellman, president of domestic theatrical distribution at the Time Warner Inc-owned studio. It shared the $80 million tab with Australia’s Village Roadshow Ltd.

Myers’ "The Love Guru," meanwhile, opened at No. 4 with just $14 million, said Paramount Pictures, falling far short of the $20 million range forecast by Hollywood pundits.

Steve Carell in The Office for three more seasons

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

steve carell postman Amidst rumors he is leaving the show to do more profitable movies, Steve Carell  insists he isn’t leaving The Office anytime soon…"All of the main cast are signed for three more (seasons). Beyond that, I have no idea." He told reporters while promoting his current summer movie, Get Smart, which is opening this weekend (June 20th).

I’m thrilled about where Steve Carell’s career is going. Although, what I’m more thrilled to learn of? —- THREE more seasons of The Office? THAT is good news! Hopefully, in three seasons, the show would still have the same complete cast members, huh?

But back to Steve, whose going to have to deliver some high expectations at the office this weekend…did you know he once was a post office mailman?

This blurb from Starpulse:

Comedy star Steve Carell was the world’s worst postman before finding fame as an actor.

The 45-year-old actor started out delivering mail in his native Massachusetts, but confesses he let down the homeowners on his route.

He says, "I was a terrible mail person. I moved to Chicago months later and found mail from three or four months before underneath my seat. So it took me a while to finally get the mail in the right hands."

A Minute with Carell and Hathaway

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

hathcarell If there is one thing so noticeable about the Carell/Hathaway pair up is that these two have so much screen chemistry together. I think they look good as a movie couple.

The interview from Reuters

Q: Above all, this film is obviously a very penetrating analysis of cold war politics.

Steve Carell (deadpan serious): "It is, very. It’s also an action comedy."

Anne Hathaway: "I’d describe it as "comtion.""

Carell: "When we first discussed it, we wanted it to be a legitimate spy movie that’s also funny. I wanted it to hold up, with characters that could potentially exist and situations that had stakes to them … we are not people you’d normally see in an action movie, and I think that’s part of the comedy."

Q: Do you feel like you’re the Tracy & Hepburn of action movies now?

Carell: "We are. I don’t think that’s overstating it."

Hathaway: "He’s right! (To Carell) You DO remind me of Katherine Hepburn, and I’m just like Spencer Tracy."

Get Smart vs Love Guru this weekend

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

70x53.jpgI’ve been kind of building up with excitement for it. Though I’m no expert and I can’t tell future…I’m sensing a box office hit. Get Smart was a TV show I sometimes got to watch when our cable television carried it a couple of years back. So, I really am eager to see how the updated movie version should fare. The bonus is, Steve Carell, one of this decade’s funniest man, is playing the lead.

The much anticipated comedy/spy movie is premiering this weekend (June 20th) and it will be up against Mike Myers’ The Love Guru. Both movies star such high profile actors/comedian hoping to cash in on a summer audience teeming with the younger set.

Which movie will this audience embrace more?

While Mike Myers’ fans anticipate the return of the comedian to the big screen (he hasn’t done movies in a while, has he?), Get Smart appeals more to a family friendly audience, hence by this assumption, the latter would have a wider reach. But last summer, Steve Carell reaped a less than spectacular box office record for his family oriented movie, Evan Almighty.

It’s going to be a comedy showdown this weekend.

Good luck to both comedians!

The Office Round Up June 16

Monday, June 16th, 2008

We’re having site issues lately so if you’ve been trying to visit this site (Thank you very much!) and end up waiting forever for the pages to load, I do apologize. Some server problem is causing this site to slowdown and hopefully, it will be fixed.

Anyway, in and around the world of The Office —-

Brian (Kevin) and Kate (Meredith) appeared on Last Comic Standing last Thursday. I saw the program as I am a fan of it. I just failed to record a video of Brian and Kate’s segment. As judges they were serious people! Brian even almost ended up arguing with someone…who was crazy, so Brian was in the right there. Clips should be available on NBC.com soon.

Steve Carell.jpgSteve Carell is Forbes Magazine’s 87th most powerful celebrity today. Wow. And he remains quite the humble guy even with all that power. The actor will be appearing on Talk shows all of this week, as Get Smart’s theater run is coming up. He will be on:

  • June 16 - Larry King
  • June 17 - Letterman
  • June 18 - Regis & Kelly
  • June 18 - Daily Show
  • June 19 - Kimmel

He will also be at the Soho Apple Center in NY on the 18th.

The cast praise Angela Kinsey’s mothering skills, in this article from People Magazine.

Jenna Fischer appeared on Ferguson the other week. And she has been updating her blog this summer.

There’s a chance of yet another strike looming…What happens to The Office if the actors do go on strike? THR says the show still has no finish product, should the strike take place. But let’s hope a deal is worked out before the deadline ends this month. Or else, The Office Season 5 will be delayed…and we don’t want that.

Steve Carell in Anchorman 2? And an Office Spin-off update!

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

0532414283_Untitled_1.jpgHey, what do you think of this one? Steve Carell doing Anchorman 2? I’d love to watch that!

He also spoke to E! about The Office spin-off and confirms no one is leaving as far as he knows: “At least at this point, from what I’ve heard, I don’t think it’s based on any of the characters from the existing show. It’s an entirely new setup with new characters.”

Steve Carell at the MTV Awards

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

He presented the award for Best Comedic Performance, which Johnny Depp won, along with his Get Smart co-stars, Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson.

There was a shout out from the audience who cried, “That’s what she said”…I think. Anne said the same, too. Oh, boy that line is forever etched in pop culture history! I have this feeling we’re gonna see that when VH1 does their I Love (this decade) series in, like, 10 years!

The Office Round Up June 2nd

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

steve carell get smart.jpgSteve Carell interview on Good Housekeeping as posted in Celebrity Baby Blog.

  • What are your plans for Father’s Day?
We have the same ritual for Father’s Day and Mother’s Day: Whoever’s day it is gets to sleep in — that means until about 7:15 — and then breakfast in bed is delivered by the young people. Breakfast is a bagel, and some bacon, and then the newspaper. After that, Father’s Day is officially over — I don’t get any special dispensation for the rest of the day

Calender in his latest movie Get Smart, with Anne Hathaway, opening June 20th.

Jenna Fischer will be on David Letterman this week….either on tonight or on Friday. She has also updated her blog with answers from questions she has fielded from fans the previous week. Jenna’s Blog 1 | Jenna’s Blog 2

  • How much time do you have off before you start filming the office again?
8 weeks. And I plan on relaxing for every minute of it. We start shooting again at the end of July.

Listen to BJ Novak’s radio interview at Seattle’s KISS 106.1. The actor/writer/comedian is also scheduled to appear in at Caroline’s in New York for three nights this week.

Watch Kate Flannery over here, doing Lampshades with Creed on June 7th.

  • The Lampshades is written and performed by Kate Flannery (THE OFFICE) and Scot Robinson (ANCHORMAN).

Did you happen to catch Oscar Nunez and Angela Kinseyon Last Comic Standing last Thursday? They were judging the talent show and were really nice to the comedians. The rest of The Office cast members are appearing in succeeding episodes:

That’s What She Said Video Compilation

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

michael scott.jpgWell, someone’s bound to do this eventually, isn’t it? Here’s a compiled video of every, “That’s what she said!” moment uttered from The Office, in the last four seasons.

If you’re a fan of the show, you essentially know what the phrase means. But if this is your first time getting acquainted with the show, here’s an explanation to why that phrase is relevant and why it makes this show even funnier.

The video compilation is from a site called Today’s Big Thing.

Finally, all of The Office’s that’s-what-she-said moments together in one video. It’s a wild, non-stop thrill ride, the best 5 minutes of your life. It’ll leave you begging for more because you’ll want to experience it over and over again. When it’s finally over you’ll want cuddle with it until you fall asleep. In the morning, you’ll wake up early and make it pancakes.

… THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!
