Revisiting: The Office UK Season 1 Episode 4 Training
Today is staff training day and everyone is required to participate in it. David tells the documentary crew that he could have done the training himself, but the company has hired someone from the outside to do it. The training is all about proper customer care.
Meanwhile Dawn and Lee are arguing at the start of the episode and apparently, they decide to call off the wedding. Dawn is crying and Tim is consoling her. Gareth walks in and also tries to console her; but he says something off, “Don’t worry, Monkey Allen down at the warehouse fancies you, even if no one else does”…. Dawn walks away upset and Tim pounces on Gareth for saying something stupid.
Back at the training, Roan the facilitator, introduces himself to the staff while David stands beside him, also acting like the trainor; sometimes even outdoing and outperforming him. Clearly, David is trying to discredit and undermine Roan’s authority as the trainor hired by the company to educate them.

Roan first shows them a video of proper customer care and David makes little commentaries about what they were watching. What David is doing is confusing Roan’s training structure even more. David even behaved worst during the role-playing activity; with Roan acting as the bad hotel manager and David as the customer:
David: I’d like to make a complaint please
Roan: Don’t care
David: But I stay in your hotel
Roan: I don’t care; not my shift
David: I think you’ll care when I tell you —-
Roan: I don’t care
David: There’s been a rape up there!!!
(Roan is taken aback, and so is everyone)
David: I’ve got his attention. Get. Their. Attention. Okay?
Roan tells him that the focus of the training is on customer care, more than anything. When they shifted roles, this is what took place…
Roan: Hello, I wish to make a complaint
David: Not interested
Roan: My room is a disgrace
David: Don’t care
Roan: The bathroom is filthy…
David: What room are you in?
Roan: 362
David: There is no 362 in this hotel….. Sometimes the complaint will be false.
Roan could not believe David. He is completely taking over the session. Lee knocks on the door and ask for Dawn to be excused from the training so they could talk for a little while. And then Roan introduces them to the next activity, but the discussion leads to David’s band days and he gladly obliges with a song number, disrupting the training once again.
During the break, David asks Dawn into his office and inquires about her and Lee. He also dedicates a song to her, to ease her anguish. His effort was okay but the song he sang was about Princess Diana.

Dawn: Isn’t that originally about Princess Diana?
David: Originally but it fits perfect doesn’t it?
Dawn: That car crash bit?
Gareth: Your relationship with Lee is a bit like a car crash
Dawn: In Paris?
Gareth: City of Love…
While at the lounge, Dawn casually mentions to Tim and her other office mates that she is thinking of leaving her job, her life in Slough; and later Tim is found all by himself, contemplating.Back in training, they staff do another activity about team building. Tim has Gareth for partner, who has too many questions about the simple task. David continues to act like an ass and Tim is already getting bored. He can’t get what Dawn told him off his mind. He decides to leave the training. But before walked out the door, he actually tells David he is quitting his job. Roan, tha facilitator, also decides to pack up and leave.
A few short minutes, Tim comes back into the room. He summons the courage to ask Dawn out for a drink now that she has split up with Lee. Dawn, however, tells Tim that she is still with Lee and they’ve just made up after the break. Tim just covers up his embarrassmen and walks. David breaks into another song.
