The Office Closes Early
Unfortunately, this is not the time for jumping for joy…
As a result and in support of the Writers’ Strike, The Office officially shuts down its production last Tuesday. According to news reports, the cast was supposed to shoot the final finished script, The Deposition, one which they say was a really, really good story.
But as of Monday, the day the strike commenced, show runner Greg Daniels was already seen at the the picket lines as early as 4 AM. Daniels believes that their cause has the support of all the actors in the series, including stars like Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson. Carell and Wilson are not only SAG members, but also WGA card holders. The Office also has several actor/writers in the cast — B.J. Novak (Ryan), Mindy Kaling (Kelly) and Paul Lieberstein (Toby) — and all have not shown up for work last Monday.
In the absence of these stars, producers have decided that shooting The Deposition is effectively is canceled. In effect, the studio has decided to close production early. I guess the strike has developed the worst case scenario. At the recent Office Convention, Greg Daniels even said the effects of the strike won’t be immediate since they were “three episodes ahead of schedule”. Yet, here we are on Day 4, and The Office has officially closed.
In the meantime, there are unconfirmed reports saying that if there are no more episodes left to air, NBC might run the British original in place of it.

I think its great! I will not support watching the network if they will not support their writers, really the creative enigma behind the shows, by giving them some compensation for internet downloads and DVD sales. It seems like common sense to me. I will be sad to not have my thursday night show to look forward to all week but at least i know its for a good cause.

It’s depressing. I understand their cause and I support it. But I also hope this will be over sooner. I’ll miss this show!
