TV’s Evolving: Internet, TV of the Future
After hearing that NBC’s hit comedy The Office wasn’t always a hit, and that iTunes truly saved it, I began wondering. How long is it going to take the big networks to realize the internet is going to become the TV of the future?
It hasn’t taken long at all. Just this past week NBC Showed a Producer’s Cut of “Branch Closing” on it’s website, complete with commercial advertisements. This seems to be where TV is heading. People are demanding more and more ease of use when it comes to watching their TV. DVRs started the trend of TV Your Way, and the internet will bring that to a whole new level.
People are beginning to realize that the internet holds a vast amount of potential, it’s sad that the big networks are always about 2 years behind. But, they are getting there. It’s been announced that CBS is going to run the rest of it’s episodes of Smith online. NBC is doing the same with Kidnapped. These shows have been plucked from the regular TV schedule, but they still have a glimmer of hope on the net.
Over 100 million Americans are now using high speed internet. The days are coming folks, they are even close at hand. Where a network would be able to do a show for just an online or downloading audience. The ability to advertise on the internet is endless. The number of people out there that could watch is almost the same.
The only question is who will perfect it first?
The Office, DVR, TV, television, TV on your terms, Smith, Kidnapped, NBC, CBS, ABC
